Automatically Transcribing Files in Watch Folders

The Watch Folder feature in MacWhisper allows you to automatically transcribe audio files by placing them in specific folders on your Mac. This guide explains how to set it up and what you can configure.

The Watch Folder Settings page can be found in the MacWhisper Settings. It allows you to monitor specific folders on your Mac. When new audio files are added to those folders, MacWhisper can automatically transcribe them and export the results in your preferred formats.

This feature requires a MacWhisper Pro license. Purchase it here.

How to Set Up Watch Folders

Click the “Add Watch Folder” or “Add Another Watch Folder” button to select a folder to monitor.

Stop Observing Folder

Each folder has a trash icon next to it. Click it to stop watching that folder.

Open in Finder

You can open the folder in Finder using the folder icon next to its path.

Auto-Transcribe Toggle

Enable this option to automatically transcribe supported files placed in your watch folders.

  • Toggle “Auto-Transcribe Watch Folder” to enable or disable this feature
  • When enabled, all newly added files will be processed automatically
  • When disabled you will receive a notification informing you a file was found, after which you can start transcribing it directly in the app. If notification permission hasn’t been granted yet, you’ll see a prompt to enable notifications. If you previously denied access, you will need to manually enable it in System Settings > Notifications.

Export Formats

When auto-transcription is enabled, you can define which export formats are used for the transcribed files.

Add Format

Click “Add Export Format” to choose a new output type.

Customize Format

Each format can be expanded to reveal export settings such as style, formatting options, and more.

Remove Format

You can remove a format using the trash icon. At least one format must remain.
