"Your license is disabled" error when activating

If you're trying to activate a copy of MacWhisper with your license key and you receive a "your license is disabled" error, that probably means that you've activated your license key on too many devices. The personal license is meant for your own devices, with a soft limit of 3.

If our system detects abuse of this your license can be disabled automatically. If you believe this is happening unexpectedly please reach out to support@macwhisper.com.

When switching to a new computer, you can disconnect your license by going to settings > pro > remove license.



December 2025 update

From the start we've always been super flexible with how people use their licenses on their own personal devices. We had to start enforcing the licensing terms a bit more because we were seeing reports of people reselling MacWhisper licenses (especially on Chinese platforms such as Taobao). This was exactly what happened in this post for example.

This is bad in a few ways:

- Users think they are buying from an approved reseller and that their license is legit

- We don't get paid for a license but we do get support emails

- We sometimes (automatically based on different signals) block licenses where we see abuse

- We have recurring costs per user which means we lose money on each user that has a license that is getting resold

We're working on a better licensing system, but it's a trade off because I want to know as little as possible about how / where people use the app for obvious privacy reasons.
